Target Messaging Strategy for Fairfax County Public Schools

Situation:

Fairfax County Public Schools faced a large budget deficit and wanted to think about developing target messaging strategies for the various stakeholders that would need to be involved in the budget process. In the previous year, FCPS had involved its stakeholders in the budget process in an unprecedented fashion, but a larger deficit was looming and issue-oriented detractors were an increasingly prominent voice in the community.

Leadership Development at Boston Public Schools

The Boston Public Schools Human Resources Office wanted to implement a leadership development initiative for its Operations and Finance managers, who had never before received any sort of professional development.  Amid a context of dwindling resources and increasing accountability, there was a desire to increase manager capacity in order to help in the execution/implementation of priority initiatives.

Accountability Plan for a School District

Situation:

After several years of strong achievement growth, a slight dip in scores led this DMC Member District to re-examine its strategic plan in order to ensure a return to achievement growth.  External stakeholders and an academic review had suggested a lack of accountability in the district, and a draft accountability plan written by the district had recently been rejected as inadequate.  The confidence problem was exacerbated by funding cuts and an inexperience at the principal level.  The Superintendent and his leadership team were struggling to understand how to ensure their partners, and themselves, that their plan for the district would guarantee a return to growth.
