In this article, Dr. Jack Dale lays out the process Fairfax County Public Schools used to address growing budget concerns. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) used a strategic governance initiative to rethink their budget allocation process, and established a protocol for increasing stakeholder engagement throughout the process. As a result, Superintendent Dale was able to gain approval of a redesigned budget that decreased FCPS’ per-student funding while still addressing constituent issues and setting a positive tone for future stakeholder interaction.
